Truck branding
Truck Branding for Cabs, Trailers and Truck Bodies
Truck branding turns a working vehicle into a moving billboard. Metal Signage designs, produces and fits graphics on cabs, curtain-side and box trailers, tankers, flatbeds and rigid truck bodies, so your name is easy to read from the road.
It suits transport operators, distributors, construction firms and any business that already runs trucks and wants them to work harder for the brand.
- Cab, trailer and body graphics
- Large-format vinyl and panels
- Planned around your truck layout
- Fitted by appointment

Where truck branding works best
Trucks spend long hours in front of other road users, which makes them one of the most visible places for a brand. Typical applications include:
- Distribution and logistics fleets with rigid trucks and tractor-trailer combinations.
- Construction, mining-support and civil contractors who want site-to-site recognition.
- Food, beverage and retail suppliers with box bodies and refrigerated trailers.
- Waste, tanker and bulk haulage operators who need clear company identification.
- Owner-drivers who want a professional look without a full custom paint job.
A single truck can carry a name, a logo, a service line and contact details. A group of trucks can be branded to a common standard, which we cover under fleet branding and rollouts.
Design options
Truck surfaces are large and varied, so the design is planned around the vehicle rather than forced onto it.
- Cab graphics: doors, roof deflector, bonnet or grille area, and sleeper panels.
- Trailer side graphics: large logos and slogans across curtain-siders, box bodies, reefers and tankers.
- Rear and door-end graphics: contact information and compliance-style markings, laid out for readability.
- Full or partial coverage: a simple logo and name, a banded design, or a large printed panel.
- Lettering only: cut vinyl letters for a clean, economical identity.
Where a design needs to fit around rivets, ribs and door seams, we measure these during the survey and allow for them in the artwork.
Materials and finishes
Most truck branding uses outdoor-grade cast or calendered self-adhesive vinyl, either cut into shapes or digitally printed and laminated for scuff and UV protection. Curtain sides need a different approach: they are flexible PVC, so graphics are usually printed on suitable material and fixed in a way that suits the curtain construction. On rigid bodies, aluminium and painted steel panels take adhesive vinyl well when the surface is clean and sound.
Finishes include gloss, satin and matt laminates. Reflective film can be added to selected elements, which is covered in reflective vehicle graphics.
Lighting and night-time visibility
Truck graphics are not internally lit. Night-time visibility comes from the road lighting and the vehicle's own lights hitting the surface, so contrast matters. Dark logos on a dark body disappear after sunset, while light lettering on a dark panel stays readable.
If you want branding that is still recognisable in headlights, reflective vinyl is the practical answer for selected parts of the design. We discuss which elements suit it during the brief, and we never apply reflective material in a way that interferes with required vehicle markings.
How truck branding compares with related options
- Choose truck branding when the vehicle is a truck with a cab, body or trailer that needs large-format graphics.
- Choose delivery van branding for panel vans, where roof, side and rear panels work differently.
- Choose bakkie branding for single and double cabs with canopies.
- Choose vehicle lettering and decals when a name and contact line is all you need.
- Choose full wraps only where the vehicle and budget justify full coverage.
Many operators mix vehicle types, so one design system is usually adapted to each body.
Technical considerations
- Viewing distance: as a rough guide, many designers allow around 25 mm of letter height per 10 m of viewing distance. Trucks are read at speed and from following vehicles, so we favour bold, simple layouts.
- Surface condition: vinyl needs a clean, sound, dry surface. Flaking paint, heavy rust or oily residue must be dealt with first.
- Texture and curvature: corrugated panels, rivets and compound curves affect which materials can be used.
- Moving parts: doors, roller shutters and access hatches need clearance in the artwork.
- Regulations: some vehicle markings are regulated, so check requirements for your vehicle class and keep them clear of decorative graphics.
- Access: we need a clean, covered or well-sheltered area and safe access to the full length of the vehicle.
What affects the price
- The number and size of vehicles, and the area covered on each.
- Cut vinyl versus digitally printed and laminated graphics.
- Surface preparation, including cleaning and removal of old graphics.
- Design complexity and the number of colours or print panels.
- Reflective film on selected elements.
- Whether work happens at our premises or at your depot, and the number of trucks per visit.

Care and maintenance
Wash trucks by hand or with a soft-brush system, avoiding high-pressure jets directed at graphic edges. Do not use harsh solvents or abrasive cleaners on vinyl. Report lifting edges early so they can be fixed before dirt and water get underneath. If a truck is repainted, repaired or sold, we can arrange careful removal, covered under vehicle branding removal.

Frequently asked questions
Can you brand a curtain-side trailer?
Yes. Curtain sides are flexible, so the material and method differ from rigid panels. We confirm the right approach during the survey.
Do you need to see the truck first?
Yes, ideally. Photographs help for a quote, but we measure the vehicle and check the surfaces before final artwork is approved.
Can reflective material be added?
Yes, on selected elements. It improves recognition in headlights. We advise during the design stage where it suits the layout.
Can you work at our depot?
Often, by appointment, if there is clean, dry, safe space. Otherwise we arrange fitting at our premises.
Can old graphics be removed first?
Yes. We assess the old vinyl and surface, then remove it carefully before fitting new graphics. See vehicle branding removal.
