Even-glow signs

LED Lightbox Signs for Shopfronts and Pylons

An LED lightbox is a fabricated cabinet with a translucent face lit evenly from behind by LED modules. Graphics can be printed, cut vinyl or a combination, and the face can be single or double sided.

Lightboxes are the workhorse of retail and roadside signage: bright, uniform and easy to update when the graphic changes.

  • Even, bright face
  • Single or double sided
  • Changeable graphics
  • Shopfront and pylon ready

Where LED lightboxes work best

  • Shopfronts and fascias where a uniform, bright sign is needed.
  • Pylon and totem-style signs for roadside businesses.
  • Projecting or blade-style double-sided signs.
  • Menu boards, directories and service listings.
  • Any sign where the artwork may need to change over time.

Design options

  • Shape and size: rectangular, rounded or shaped cabinets.
  • Sides: single face for a wall or double face for a projecting or freestanding sign.
  • Face system: fixed faces, push-through lettering or removable faces for easy change.
  • Depth: deeper for even light on large faces, shallower for tighter spaces.
  • Frame colour: painted or anodised to match the building.

Materials and finishes

  • Aluminium or galvanised-steel cabinets, painted or powder-coated.
  • Translucent acrylic or polycarbonate faces; flexible faces for larger sizes.
  • Printed translucent film or cut vinyl graphics.
  • Stainless steel or painted fixings for exposed locations.

Print and vinyl colours shift when backlit, so we proof key colours on the face material.

Lighting options

LED modules or strips are spaced across the cabinet to avoid hot and dark spots. Depth, reflector colour and diffuser choice are balanced to give a uniform face. White LED is standard.

Advanced lighting such as colour-changing or pixel-controlled boxes is subject to technical assessment and confirmed availability.

Lightbox vs letters vs slimline

  • Choose a lightbox when you need a uniform glow and an easily changed graphic.
  • Choose front-lit letters when you want the shape of your brand name to be the sign, without a box around it.
  • Choose a slimline lightbox when depth must be minimal or the sign is indoors.
  • Choose a tension fabric lightbox for very large, seamless graphics.

Technical considerations

  • Viewing distance: as a rough guide, many designers allow around 25 mm of letter height per 10 m of viewing distance. We confirm on site.
  • Weight and wind: larger boxes need strong fixings and, for freestanding signs, engineered footings.
  • Drainage and sealing: exterior cabinets are detailed so moisture can escape.
  • Electrical access: driver position and isolator access are planned at survey.
  • Glare: faces are set to a brightness suited to their surroundings.
  • Approvals: structural, electrical and municipal matters are checked during survey and design, and may need landlord, body corporate or municipal approval.

What affects the price

  • Cabinet size and depth.
  • Single versus double-sided.
  • Face system and graphic complexity.
  • Frame finish and materials.
  • Fixing, footing or pole requirements.
  • Access equipment.
  • Mockups and approvals.

Care and maintenance

Wipe faces with a soft cloth and mild cleaner. Check for water ingress, cloudy faces and failed modules. Faces can be re-skinned when branding changes; see LED signage repairs for fault-finding.
