Hotel and lodge signage
Hotel Signs: Entrance, Room and Wayfinding Systems
Hotel signage is part brand statement and part navigation system. Guests need to find the entrance, reception, their room, the restaurant, the pool and the fire exit without asking, and the signs that do this are part of how they judge the property.
Metal Signage designs and installs coordinated sign families for hotels, lodges, guest houses and conference venues, from entrance monuments to door numbers.
- Entrance to room coverage
- Coordinated sign family
- Premium metal finishes
- Accessible and clear

Where hotel signage works best
- Boutique hotels and guest houses that want a distinctive, owner-managed look
- Lodges and game-lodge style properties that need natural materials and low-impact lighting
- Business hotels in office nodes, where speed of navigation matters
- Conference and event venues with multiple rooms and shifting layouts
- Serviced apartments and extended-stay properties that combine hotel and residential signs
- Hotels in refurbishment, replacing mismatched signs from several eras
- Groups that want every property to share a recognisable signage standard
Design options
A hotel sign system is easiest to plan in zones.
- Arrival: a monument or pylon at the road, plus lettering on the building and clear parking, drop-off and reception directions.
- Public areas: reception logo, restaurant, bar, spa, pool, conference and lift lobby signs.
- Floors and corridors: floor numbers, directional signs and room-range indicators.
- Rooms: door numbers, "do not disturb" and service holders, in line with your lock and door system.
- Back of house: staff, store and service-route signs, simpler and more durable.
- Safety and compliance: exit and fire equipment signs, with the specification confirmed against current building and safety requirements.
Materials and finishes
Hotels carry richer materials than most buildings. Brushed stainless steel, brass and copper suit reception and interior signs, painted aluminium suits exterior lettering, and Corten and stone-look composites suit lodge entrances. Acrylic and glass-effect panels work for room numbers and information, and timber-effect or laser-cut metal can carry a local or natural theme. Guests touch door numbers and handle directories, so edges, fixings and finishes must be smooth and hard-wearing.
Lighting options
Hotels need signage that is readable after dark without causing glare into bedroom windows.
- Halo-lit lettering gives a soft, upmarket glow that suits arrival fronts.
- Illuminated reception logos add brand presence behind the front desk.
- Low-level or ground lighting of monuments avoids light spill toward rooms.
- Corridor and stair signs should stay legible under emergency lighting; the exact specification is confirmed during design.
- Colour-changing or animated brand lighting is possible subject to technical assessment and confirmed availability.
How it compares with related options
- Choose a full hotel system when you need coordinated exterior, public and room signs rather than a one-off sign.
- Choose restaurant signs if only the food and beverage outlet is being rebranded.
- Choose internal architectural sign systems for a purely interior programme with no exterior work.
- Choose residential complex entrance signs for apartment-style properties without hospitality services.
- Choose accessible and tactile signs to add raised text and contrast for guests with visual impairment.
Technical considerations
- Viewing distance and size: as a rough guide, many designers allow around 25 mm of letter height per 10 m of viewing distance for exterior signs. Corridor and room signs are read at arm's length and are sized accordingly. We confirm on site.
- Contrast and accessibility: strong contrast between text and background helps all guests. Raised text and Braille are options.
- Fixings: signs on glass, timber, stone and drywall need different fixings. Door signs should not conflict with locks and closers.
- Weather: outdoor signs near pools, gardens and irrigation need materials that tolerate moisture and cleaning.
- Light spill: exterior lit signs are positioned and dimmed to avoid disturbing rooms.
- Approvals: structural, electrical and municipal matters are checked during the survey and design. Heritage or estate rules, and landlord or body corporate consent, may also apply.
What affects the price
- Number of rooms, floors and public areas
- Material choice: metal, acrylic, timber-effect or glass
- Exterior signs and their lighting
- Accessible and tactile requirements
- Design time for a coordinated sign family
- Installation access, including working around guests
- Phasing of the project across several visits
- Number of properties in a group
Care and maintenance
Housekeeping teams should clean signs with a soft cloth and a metal- or acrylic-appropriate cleaner, avoiding abrasives. Check door numbers and directional signs for loose fixings regularly, and replace worn or damaged ones as a set so the family stays consistent. Exterior signs should be cleaned and inspected on a schedule; see cleaning and maintenance. Keep spare artwork on file so replacement signs match.
