3D lit lettering
Front-Lit Channel Letters That Glow at Night
Front-lit channel letters are fabricated 3D letters with translucent acrylic faces. LED modules sit inside each letter and light the face directly, so the name reads as a glowing shape.
They are the most direct way to make a name legible at night, which is why they suit shopfronts, offices, showrooms and any building seen from the road.
- Strongest forward glow
- Reads from a distance
- Colour-true faces
- Suits most facades

Where front-lit letters work best
- Retail fascias and shopfronts where the name must stand out against neighbours.
- Office buildings and business parks seen from the road.
- Showrooms, clinics, gyms and restaurants that trade after dark.
- Large facades where a clear, high-visibility name is the priority.
- Any sign that must be read while moving, such as from a passing vehicle.
Because the glow comes straight through the face, front-lit letters tolerate busy backgrounds and mixed wall colours better than the more subtle options.
Design options
Construction is straightforward but flexible:
- Return depth: shallower for neat fascias, deeper for a more sculptural look. Depth also affects how evenly the face lights.
- Face colour: opal white, or coloured translucent acrylic matching the brand.
- Trim cap: a trim around the face edge in a contrasting colour.
- Mounting: direct to the wall, on a raceway, or on a backing panel when the wall cannot be penetrated.
- Logo detail: multi-colour logos can be built with several face colours or with vinyl overlays.
Materials and finishes
- Returns in aluminium or stainless steel, painted to brand colour.
- Faces in opal or tinted acrylic, sometimes with vinyl applied to adjust colour.
- Backs in aluminium or acrylic with drainage and ventilation provisions.
- Optional brushed or polished metal return to add a premium edge.
A white face in daylight is rarely pure white; we suggest checking a sample next to the surrounding paint.
Lighting options
The face is lit from behind by LED modules spaced to avoid hot spots. Module density, letter depth and face material together determine how even the glow looks. White LED is standard; single-colour LED can suit a brand red or blue. Colour-changing lighting is subject to technical assessment and confirmed availability.
Dimmable drivers and photocell or timer switching can be included so the sign is not brighter than the environment needs.
Front-lit vs halo-lit vs dual-lit
- Choose front-lit when legibility and visibility are the main goal and the wall colour is not part of the design.
- Choose halo-lit letters when you want a subtler, premium look with the name as a dark silhouette against a glow.
- Choose dual-lit letters when you want the visibility of a lit face plus the depth of a halo.
- Consider an LED lightbox if you need a changeable graphic rather than fixed letters.
Technical considerations
- Letter height: as a rough guide, many designers allow around 25 mm of letter height per 10 m of viewing distance. We confirm on site.
- Contrast: a light face on a dark wall reads best; pale walls reduce impact in daylight.
- Mounting surface: brick, concrete, cladding and glass each need their own fixings.
- Electrical access: drivers need ventilation and service access; the supply point is confirmed during the survey.
- Weather: exposed facades need sealing and drainage details.
- Landlord and municipality: approvals are checked at survey and design stage and may involve landlords, body corporates or the municipality.
What affects the price
- Letter count, height and return depth.
- Face and return materials and finishing.
- Logo complexity, including curves and fine detail.
- Wall type and mounting method.
- Cable distance to the supply.
- Access equipment and installation conditions.
- Drawings and approval documentation.
Care and maintenance
Clean faces with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Check for condensation, loose letters and failed modules at regular intervals. Faults are handled under LED signage repairs.

How ordering works
- 1
Brief
Tell us the name, logo files and where the sign will be seen from.
- 2
Site survey
We measure the wall, check the surface and locate power. Our team measures the wall or structure, checks the fixing surface, locates power and photographs the viewing angles. Structural, electrical and municipal matters are checked at this stage.
- 3
Design and approval
You approve drawings and a photo mockup showing letter size and colours.
- 4
Manufacture
Letters are fabricated, wired and tested in our workshop.
- 5
Installation
Letters are mounted on an appointment day, with power connected by a qualified electrician.
Frequently asked questions
Are front-lit letters visible in daylight?
Yes, as solid 3D letters. Their colour and shape read clearly, with the lighting adding impact as light fades.
What is the difference from halo-lit?
Front-lit glows through the face; halo-lit glows around the letter onto the wall. See halo-lit letters.
Can I choose a coloured face?
Yes. Tinted acrylic or vinyl-adjusted faces can match your brand colour; samples help confirm the lit look.
How are the letters fixed to the wall?
Usually direct with studs or on a backing panel. The method depends on the surface, confirmed at survey.
Do I need landlord permission?
Often yes for tenants, and sometimes municipal approval. We advise what is likely during the survey.
