Reception branding
Office Reception Signs That Welcome Visitors
A reception sign is the first piece of branding a visitor stands in front of, often for several minutes. We design, manufacture and install reception logos and lettering in metal, acrylic and mixed materials, with or without lighting, for offices of every size.
It suits companies moving into new premises, refurbishing a lobby, or replacing a logo that no longer matches the brand. Our workshop and showroom base is in Rivonia, Sandton, and surveys are arranged by appointment across Gauteng.

Where reception signs work best
Reception signage is about the wall behind the desk, but the best results come from thinking about how the whole arrival space is seen. Typical applications include:
- Corporate head offices and regional offices with a staffed reception desk.
- Professional practices such as law, accounting, architecture and medical suites where credibility matters.
- Shared and serviced offices where each tenant needs a presence at a common entrance.
- Showrooms and training centres where the reception doubles as a brand moment.
- Co-working floors that need a strong logo wall without a heavy fit-out.
If your reception is open-plan and the logo is seen from several directions, we will look at sight lines during the survey before recommending a size and position.
Design options
Most reception signs fall into a handful of constructions, and we can mix them on one wall:
- Flat-cut letters and logos cut from a single sheet, fixed with concealed studs for a clean edge.
- Fabricated 3D letters with returns for depth, shadow lines and, if required, internal lighting.
- Layered logos where several thicknesses and materials are stacked to reproduce a detailed mark.
- Backing panels in timber veneer, painted board, metal or acrylic that frame the logo and protect the wall.
- Printed or painted logo discs and shapes where the brand uses solid colour fields.
Letter thickness, projection from the wall, fixing method and finish are all set per project. As a starting point, a reception logo is usually sized so it reads comfortably from the door, not only from the desk.
Materials and finishes
Interior reception signs give us the widest choice of materials because they are protected from weather. Common choices are brushed or mirror stainless steel, painted aluminium, brass or copper for a warmer tone, cast or cut acrylic, and PVC or composite for lighter, more economical builds.
Finishes can be matched to brand colours using a paint reference you supply, and we can mix gloss, satin and textured finishes on one logo to separate elements. See materials and finishes for a visual comparison, or ask us for physical samples during the survey.
Lighting options
Reception walls are often lit already by downlights, so the first question is whether the sign needs its own light at all. Many do not. A well-made brushed metal logo under good ceiling light can look excellent unlit.
Where lighting adds value, the usual options are a soft halo behind solid letters, lit faces for logos that must glow, or hidden LED strips washing the wall above or below. Halo effects work best on a plain, smooth, light-coloured wall that will reflect the glow. Advanced lighting such as colour-changing RGBW or pixel effects is subject to technical assessment and confirmed availability.
We keep light spill and glare in mind: a very bright sign in a small reception can be uncomfortable for staff at the desk, so brightness is chosen to suit the room.
How it compares with related options
Reception signs overlap with a few neighbouring products. Choose by what the wall and the brand need:
- Choose illuminated reception logos when the logo should glow or carry a halo as a key feature.
- Choose corporate wall logos for boardrooms, corridors and secondary walls where a simpler unlit 3D logo is enough.
- Choose office wall graphics when you want large-scale colour and pattern on a budget, or a design you may change in a few seasons.
- Choose stainless steel letters when you have decided on the material and want to explore finishes in depth.
Office reception signs is the page to start with when the brief is simply "make our front desk look right" and you want us to recommend the construction.
Technical considerations
- Viewing distance and size: as a rough guide, many designers allow around 25 mm of letter height per 10 m of viewing distance for legibility. Reception logos are usually seen much closer, so size is driven more by proportion to the wall and desk. We confirm on site.
- Mounting surface: face brick, plasterboard, glass and timber panels each need a different fixing. Drywall usually needs a solid backing or fixings into the framing, which we check during the survey.
- Electrical access: lit signs need a power point or a supply routed to a concealed driver. Tell us early if the wall has services behind it.
- Contrast: dark logos on dark walls disappear. We test colour combinations against your actual wall colour.
- Approvals: interior signs in leased space may need landlord or body corporate consent, and any structural or electrical work is checked at the survey and design stage.
What affects the price
- Size of the logo and number of separate elements.
- Material choice and finish, for example mirror stainless versus painted aluminium.
- Construction: flat-cut, fabricated, layered or lit.
- Lighting type, drivers and the amount of electrical work.
- Wall type and fixing complexity.
- Any backing panel, feature wall or accompanying signs.
- Number of visits and whether work must be done after hours.
We provide a written quote after the survey rather than a guess from a photo.
Care and maintenance
Wipe metal and acrylic with a soft, damp microfibre cloth and a mild cleaner, avoiding abrasive pads on brushed or mirror finishes. Dust the tops of 3D letters regularly, as dust shows quickly on dark finishes. If your sign is lit and a section goes dark, switch it off and contact us; our maintenance service covers inspections and repairs.

Frequently asked questions
Can you make a 3D version of our existing logo?
Yes. Send vector artwork if you have it and we will check how well it converts to a raised or layered build. Very fine details may need simplifying, and we will show you the options in the mockup.
Do I need lighting on a reception sign?
Not always. Good ceiling lighting often shows a metal logo well. We recommend lighting where the wall is dim, the logo is dark, or you want a night-time or glass-frontage presence.
Can you fix to a drywall or glass wall?
Yes, but the method differs. Drywall needs the correct backing or framing fixings, and glass uses different adhesives or a backing panel. We check this at the survey.
Will the landlord need to approve it?
If you rent, it is wise to ask. Many landlords and body corporates want to see the mockup and fixing details before agreeing. We can supply them.
Can you update the sign if we rebrand?
Layered or flat-cut logos can be removed and replaced. We can make good the wall where possible, and our removal and replacement service handles that work.
