Keep signs working
Signage Maintenance, Repair and Cleaning Enquiries
Illuminated signs only earn their keep while they are switched on and clean. Use this page to tell us about faded, dark, flickering or damaged signs, or to arrange regular cleaning and inspection across one site or many.
- Repairs and LED faults
- Cleaning and inspection
- Visits by appointment

What we can help with
- LED faults: dark sections, flickering, failed modules or power supplies. See LED signage repairs.
- Retrofit: replacing old neon or fluorescent lighting with LED, subject to assessment. See LED retrofit.
- Cleaning: removing dirt and grime from faces, metal and lightboxes. See cleaning and maintenance.
- Damage: loose letters, dented panels, corroded fixings and weather damage.
- Removal and replacement: see removal and replacement.
Whether the sign is a few letters on a shopfront or a pylon at a roadside, the first step is the same: tell us what you see and we will advise whether it needs a clean, a repair or a rethink.
Telling us about the fault
The more you tell us, the better we can prepare. Useful details include a photo by day and one at night, what exactly is not working, whether it happened suddenly or gradually, whether other lights on the same circuit are affected, and how the sign is reached (ladder, cherry picker, roof access).
Do not open or work on sign wiring yourself. Switch the sign off at the isolator or board if you see damage, water ingress or burning smells, and keep people away from hanging or loose parts.
Typical causes of a dark or patchy sign include a failed LED module, a failed power supply, a loose or corroded connection, moisture inside the sign, a timer or photocell fault, or a supply problem at the building. Only an inspection confirms which one applies.
Inspections
Periodic inspection looks at fixings, seals, power supplies, wiring condition, brightness and cleanliness before small faults become failures. A sign near a coastal, industrial or high-dust environment ages differently from one in a covered entrance, so frequency depends on exposure and we advise by site.
For businesses with many sites, we can record each sign and its condition so repairs can be grouped. See multi-site branding.
Cleaning
Dirt reduces light output and dulls metal. Cleaning methods depend on the material: acrylic faces, brushed stainless, painted aluminium, brass and copper each need different products. Aggressive solvents, abrasive pads and pressure washers can damage faces, seals and electrics, so cleaning should be done with care.
What we need to quote
Fault repairs can sometimes be estimated from photos, but many need a visit. Work at height or on structures may require access equipment and landlord permission, which affects cost and timing. Estimates are not binding until confirmed in writing.
Not our sign?
We can usually look at signs made by others, although matching parts may need to be sourced or replaced with equivalent components. Where a sign is old or has repeated failures, a retrofit may make more sense than repeated repairs. Any retrofit is subject to technical assessment of the existing housing and wiring.
Where we maintain signs
Visits are arranged by appointment from our Rivonia base. See our service areas, including Sandton, Johannesburg, Midrand, Pretoria and Germiston.

Frequently asked questions
Do you repair signs you did not make?
Often yes. We inspect first, then advise whether repair, partial replacement or retrofit makes sense.
Why is only part of my sign lit?
Common causes include a failed LED module, power supply or loose connection. A visit confirms the cause.
How often should signs be cleaned?
It depends on location. Roadside and industrial signs collect dirt faster than interior signs, so we advise per site.
Can you work at height?
Yes, access is planned during the visit and may need landlord consent or equipment hire.
Can you arrange regular maintenance?
Yes, tell us how many signs and sites and we will propose an inspection and cleaning schedule.
