Shallow lit panels

Slimline LED Lightboxes With Changeable Graphics

A slimline LED lightbox is a shallow-profile cabinet, often only a few centimetres deep, with a snap-open or sliding frame so the graphic can be changed in minutes. Light is delivered either from edge LEDs or a thin backlit array.

It is the tidy choice for interiors, narrow fascias and any place where a deep box would look clumsy.

  • Shallow, neat profile
  • Quick graphic changes
  • Wall, ceiling or window
  • Great for interiors

Where slimline lightboxes work best

  • Menu boards and promotions in restaurants and takeaways.
  • Retail displays, window posters and in-store promotions.
  • Reception and corridor displays in offices and clinics.
  • Directories and wayfinding panels.
  • Narrow fascias and sheltered entrances where depth is limited.

Design options

  • Size and orientation: portrait, landscape or custom, from small to large panels.
  • Frame style: snap-open frame, click-frame or fixed face, in aluminium.
  • Mounting: wall-mounted, suspended, freestanding or window-hung.
  • Sides: single or double sided for hanging boxes.
  • Graphic type: printed backlit film or translucent print.

Materials and finishes

  • Extruded aluminium frames in silver, black or painted finishes.
  • Acrylic or polycarbonate light-guide or diffuser panels.
  • Backlit film or translucent print for the graphic.
  • Clear protective sheet in front of the graphic.

Anodised or powder-coated frames can match interior fittings or a brand palette.

Lighting options

Slimline boxes use LED strips along the edges or thin LED panels behind a diffuser. Even lighting depends on diffuser quality, panel size and LED density. Brightness is set for the room: displays near windows may need stronger output than corridor boxes.

Colour-changing lighting is subject to technical assessment and confirmed availability and is uncommon in this format.

Slimline vs standard lightbox vs fabric

  • Choose slimline when depth and easy graphic swaps matter, mainly indoors or under a covered entrance.
  • Choose a standard LED lightbox for exposed exterior use, larger faces or double-sided signs.
  • Choose a tension fabric lightbox for very large, seamless graphics.
  • Choose edge-lit acrylic when you prefer a clear, engraved look to a printed one.

Technical considerations

  • Viewing distance: as a rough guide, many designers allow around 25 mm of letter height per 10 m of viewing distance. Slimline boxes are mostly read at close range, so smaller text is acceptable indoors.
  • Mounting surface: drywall needs suitable fixings or noggins; brick and concrete are straightforward.
  • Power: low-voltage drivers need a hidden, ventilated spot and a nearby supply.
  • Heat and humidity: avoid placing near steam or open kitchens without protection.
  • Glare: excessive brightness at eye level is tiring; output is set to suit.
  • Approvals: landlord or body-corporate consent may be needed, and any exterior use is checked at survey.

What affects the price

  • Panel size and quantity.
  • Frame type and finish.
  • Single or double sided.
  • Lighting layout and drivers.
  • Printing of the graphics and any later change sets.
  • Mounting method and cabling.
  • Installation access.

Care and maintenance

Wipe the front sheet with a soft cloth. Open the frame to change graphics and dust the diffuser. If a section of the glow fades, our LED signage repairs team can inspect the lighting.
