Temporary store branding
Pop-Up Shop Signage for Kiosks and Temporary Stores
Pop-up shops need to look established from the first day, even when they will only trade for weeks. Signage must be quick to install, light to move, hard to damage and removable without harming the landlord's property.
Metal Signage designs and builds pop-up signage packages for kiosks, seasonal stores, market stalls and short-lease shops, with installation by appointment.
- Quick to fit and remove
- Light and portable
- Landlord-friendly fixing
- Reusable components

Where pop-up signage works best
- Seasonal stores in malls, such as festive or back-to-school
- Kiosks and islands in centre walkways
- Market, expo and festival stalls
- Short-lease shopfronts while a permanent store is being fitted
- Product launches and brand activations
- Food trucks and trailers that need fixed and changeable signs
- Franchisees testing a new location before committing to full signage
Design options
A pop-up package is usually assembled from a few standard parts.
- Header sign: a printed or cut header for the top of the kiosk or stall.
- Fascia panels: lightweight panels that fix to the front of a kiosk or shopfront.
- Stand-alone signs: banner stands, A-frames and totems for the walkway.
- Window and counter graphics: removable vinyl and counter fronts, see promotional window decals.
- Floor and wayfinding graphics: directional decals for queues and entry.
- Lit panels: slimline LED lightboxes where power is available.
- Reusable systems: modular frames with changeable graphics, so the same structure carries the next campaign.
Materials and finishes
Lightweight materials keep cost, weight and installation time down: foam board, aluminium composite panel, corrugated plastic, printed fabric and vinyl. Frames are typically aluminium or steel with powder-coated or anodised finishes. Where a pop-up will run for months rather than weeks, we may recommend sturdier materials for the main header. Fixings should avoid drilling into landlord surfaces; options include adhesive systems, clamps, free-standing bases and hanging systems, subject to what the site allows.
Lighting options
Most pop-ups depend on the centre's lighting, which is why a good header with high contrast matters. Where you need extra presence, consider:
- Slimline LED lightboxes with changeable graphics.
- Tension fabric lightboxes for larger, seamless graphics on a portable frame.
- LED neon flex for a feature word or logo in a temporary space.
- Plug-in power only; hard-wiring in a temporary space may not be allowed and would be checked with the landlord.
How it compares with related options
- Choose pop-up signage when the store will be removed in weeks or months and you want light, reusable signs.
- Choose shopfront signs for a permanent lease where the fascia will stay.
- Choose promotional decals if you already have a shop and only need a campaign message.
- Choose point-of-sale signs for items inside the pop-up.
- Choose multi-branch branding when pop-ups are a standing programme across several locations.
Technical considerations
- Viewing distance and size: as a rough guide, many designers allow around 25 mm of letter height per 10 m of viewing distance. Pop-ups in busy walkways need strong, simple headers readable at a glance. We confirm on site.
- Fixing and damage: landlords often forbid drilling or adhesives on finished surfaces. Fixing methods are agreed at survey.
- Transport and storage: sign parts should fit in a bakkie or van and be easy to carry.
- Power: plug-in lighting depends on available sockets and the centre's electrical rules.
- Crowds and safety: freestanding signs must be stable and stay clear of walkways and exits.
- Approvals: centre management and landlords usually set rules for temporary signs, which we check at survey and may need to submit as a drawing.
What affects the price
- Duration of the pop-up and how often it will be reused
- Number of components: header, fascia, stands, counters, floor graphics
- Materials and whether parts are reusable
- Lighting and power requirements
- Design time for artwork
- Installation and removal visits
- Storage between campaigns
- Number of pop-up locations
Care and maintenance
Wipe signs with a soft cloth and avoid harsh cleaners. Check freestanding bases and fixings each day, particularly in windy or busy areas. Keep protective covers and cases for transport, and note which parts belong to which location so the kit can be reused. When the pop-up ends, our removal service can take everything down and make good.

Frequently asked questions
How quickly can a pop-up be branded?
That depends on the materials, artwork and our workload at the time. We confirm timing when you send the brief and dates.
Can I reuse the signs at my next pop-up?
Yes, if we design modular frames with changeable graphics. Tell us about future locations in the brief.
Will you drill into the landlord's walls?
Only if allowed. We use non-drilling fixings where the site requires them.
Can the pop-up have a lit sign?
Yes, usually with plug-in lightboxes, where power is available and permitted.
Do you remove the signs at the end?
Yes. We can plan removal at the start and make good surfaces. See signage removal and replacement.
